Come on Dover! – Monochrome Ascot Themed Craft Projects

Royal Ascot is held as one of the most prestigious races of the year amongst the horse racing community and fans alike. Ascot Racecourse is visited by over 500,000 racegoers a year, accounting for 10% of all UK racegoers. A huge proportion of this number is from the crowds of Lords, Ladies, Gentlemen and even Royals who don their finest outfits and biggest (sometimes strangest) hats to watch the best horse and jockey be crowned the winner of Royal Ascot.

With £5.5 million in prize money for the winner, it’s the most valuable race meeting in Britain and that might just be part of the reason that this event is seen as the most luxurious event in the race calendar to attend. You can see more of the fascinating facts and statistics in the Ascot video below, some of which are quite surprising! Did you know that a massive 51,000 bottles of champagne are consumed just over the race weekend? That’s a lot of bubbles!

If you haven’t managed to get a ticket to the live event, you can still join in the pomp and circumstance of the occasion. Why not throw an Ascot themed tea party, complete with traditional afternoon tea and get your guests to dress up in their best outfits? You can see details of what’s broadcast and when on the Channel 4 website, so you won’t miss out on the racing action.

If you’re throwing a party for Ascot, attending the event itself or planning a monochrome themed event; you’ll love our latest craft concept! Our designer, Jamie, took his inspiration for this monochrome collection from the popular 1964 musical film, My Fair Lady. Beautifully filmed in black and white, the Ascot race scene is one of the most quoted scenes of the film; culminating with the finely dressed Eliza screaming Come on, Dover! Move your bloomin’ arse!’ much to the horror and amusement of those around her.

We think Eliza would be just as excited by this monochrome craft collection, created to complement this iconic scene. Featuring a modern fascinator inspired headband, classic masquerade mask complete with top hat and a number of monochrome themed decorations to complete the look for your event. You can see the full collection of images, along with how to make these beautiful projects when you explore our A Day at the Races concept.
